Atmail 6.5 – Online Storage

Atmail 6.5 - Online Storage

While we continue with regular incremental updates, continually improving the user experience of our online Webmail client and rolling out code optimisations to keep the Atmail server platform fast and secure, we are also working on some exciting new features that will change the way you use Atmail. In this release we take the covers off Storage.

All in One

Storage is an entirely new offering to the Atmail online webmail experience with it’s own high-level tab. One of the biggest limitations with email is it’s relatively small attachment size – email was primarily built as a message protocol, not a way to distribute files. However as the web has evolved and we work on increasing large files like Photoshop designs, Adobe Premiere movies and even large Excel spreadsheets we too need a way to share these files with our colleges and others over the internet. This is not a new problem; services like Dropbox, SkyDrive® and even the recently launched Google Drive all exist to make sharing large files easier – but they are all external services beyond your email, contacts & calendar service that require you to create and additional username & password and possibly even signup for regular credit card deductions for the privilege – don’t sound so easy anymore.

Your Data

Also uploading to external provider for the sharing of your personal files, may inadvertently expose you to “sharing” your files to more eyes than you think. This might be an acceptable risk for sharing a few photos of what you did on the weekend, but what if you were sharing last months sales data or the initial draft of a new product launch – this is not something you’d want stored beyond your company’s corporate network. Atmail’s Storage keeps you in control of your data.

Also making it’s debut in Atmail version 6.5 is a new UI optimised for mobile handsets. If you’d like to this and the new Stroage tab be sure to try out the online demo or download Atmail 6.5 and evaluate it for your business.

SkyDrive® is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries. Google Drive is a trademark of Google Inc.

@Brad G Archiving is not a feature yet. We have added it to our “requested features” list for consideration. File Storage uses the user level mailbox quotas for Atmail Server. Atmail Webmail only version does not have quota limits.

@John Sieczkowski The Storage Tab will be coming to the Atmail Cloud… soon.

@Wim As an administrator you can disable the files tab from WebAdmin > Services > WebDAV Files Storage > Files Storage Tab & File Sharing

What about options to archive these docs so our archiving policies aren’t bypassed? Are quotas enforced at any level? If so, how?
