This week, we are proud to announce the release of Atmail 7.1.1. This tremendous update to Atmail contains a huge list of updates and fixes to your Atmail installation, as well as the following new features:

New Admin Theme. Better admin functions through a slicker UI. We’ve refreshed the interface and added a host of new features for easier, more comprehensive user administration.

Password Policies. Want to improve your end-user security? With the Password Policy feature, you can define the password lengths and complexities for your users.

Expanded User Statistics. Geolocation, per-user activity graphs, and more edit options. The user manager has been expanded to allow for the management of your users in greater detail.

Revamped Branding. Modify Atmail and make it your own. With more branding options, you can white-label anything – from the branding logos, to the help files.

Announcing the Atmail Plugin competition

Entries are open on who can create the best PHP plugin or mashup using the Atmail API, with the winners announced 24th July 2013.

First prize is the ultimate work experience of a lifetime -  fully paid trip (flights/accommodation/meals/attractions) to Silicon Beach (Peregian Beach, Sunshine Coast, Australia) , where you can work and play with the Atmail development team for a week, visit Australia Zoo (of Steve Erwin fame), tour the region, and learn to surf at the world famous Noosa Beach. All accommodation, all travel and meal expenses are included.

Second prize is a $2,000 cash prize for the runner up and 3rd prize $1,000 cash and inclusion on the Atmail wall of fame!

Example ideas that can be created with the Atmail API include:

• Kinnect Mail – A plugin that uses a Microsoft Kinnect to provide a “Minorty Report” interface to your Inbox
• BitMail – A proof-of-concept using Bitcoin as an exchange for sending and receiving emails
• WalleMail – Perfect for your office wallboard. Display the most relevant emails in your Inbox to your display.

The judges of the competition include:

• Robert Austin – Co-founder of The Various Artists, a leading web-agency based in the Sunshine Coast

We’re proud to announce the release of two new plugins for the Atmail framework: CalAvailability and MailHighlight.

CalAvailability is a JavaScript mashup for Atmail that connects the events you create in the Calendar API and produces a table of availability; this plugin is perfect for staff management and organizing schedules.

MailHighlight is a handy little plugin that highlights the messages in your in your Inbox that matter most. Never miss an Email from personal contacts or email addresses flagged as favourites again.
